For Thai people, elephants hold great significance (they are the national animal of Thailand). In the past, elephants were used for labor and played a role in warfare. They served as transportation for kings and nobles. For the general population, elephants were used to travel and move heavy objects. Nowadays, Thai elephants are no longer used in wars or as labor as they were in the past. However, it cannot be denied that there are still some instances where elephants are used for work, leading the government and some private organization to prioritize the care of sick elephants or those impacted by labor. As a result, Elephant Nature Sanctuary was established as a place to care for these elephants. You can visit and participate in activities to support these gentle giants
